As I mentioned in the previous post, I’m in LOVE with blouses this season! Between my love affair with any type of bow tie blouse, and the surge of Victoriana blouses, I’m completely obsessed. At first glance, these blouses seem vintage and conservative with their high-neck collars and innocent white coloring. But take closer look, and you’ll see these blouses are a little more risqué than they let on.
Between the sheer sleeve, lace detail, and the flirtatious ruffles around the neck, these blouses look more and more romantic by the moment. I love how at first it seems simple and plain, but then every beautiful detail comes to life and the blouse suddenly becomes a work of art. Porter put it perfectly when they said:
“This kind of immaculate yet daring dressing is rare, and much has been made of the influence the 1970’s move, Picnic at Hanging Rock, is currently having on the runways. And it is true, this latest version of Victoriana – like the film – suggests the idea of a mystery that can never be solved. But these blouses are also widely romantic, evoking girlishness and lazy grace. They are serious and even holy, for no other reason than white lace need quite loses its association with brides and first communicants.”
It’s the perfect ultra femme layering pieces for your wardrobe this fall. I can imagine is layered under dresses like I’ve done here, perfectly paired with a tailored velvet blazer, or just the neck detailing poking out from a sweater.
