For me, there’s something about summertime picnics that is so classic 1950’s. I imagine people driving their old-fashioned cars out to the town’s nearest lake or big open field, laying down a hand-made quilt, and soaking in the summer sun in style. It’s tradition for Ryan and I to picnic every year for by birthday, so naturally, I had to dress the part.
There’s nothing more iconic to me about fifties style than an over-the-top hair accessory. As soon as I discovered these hair turbans by Cult Gaia, I knew it had to have one for my birthday picnic. I paired it with a delicate white lace romper (trying to stay cool in the 90 degree heat), and though its cut more resembles 1950’s swimsuits, it still gave me that classic look I wanted.
Our French themed picnic (all perfectly planned by Ryan) consisted of meats, cheeses, fresh fruit, and sparkling peach wine – accompanied by a romantic Parisian playlist. I couldn’t have asked for a better way to spend my birthday evening! The sun set and storm clouds rolled in just as we were leaving, and I couldn’t help but wish there was a lake nearby to take a summertime dip in.
