Spring is just around the corner (one day and sixteen hours to be exact), and I’m getting my wardrobe prepped and ready for it. We are seeing all kinds of trends emerging thanks to our younger generation. While I’m not here for low-rise denim (been there, suffered through that), I am excited for a lot of other spring trends. This season seems all about a more relaxed, carefree and cheerful way of dressing, and I think that something we could all use embracing after the last several months. Here are six ways of dressing that I will be adopting in the coming months, and a round up of a few items that have caught my eye!
Pastels
For spring? Groundbreaking. I know, I know — while this isn’t a new trend for spring, it is once I’ll be embracing this year. I’ll always be a neutral lover at heart, but something about baby pinks and blues is calling out to me this year. From outerwear to denim, here are a few pastel pieces I’m crushing on.
Wide Leg Denim & Trousers
While Gen-Z may be shaming us for still sticking to our skinny jeans, I’m actually a turned woman because of them! As of today, I’ve officially said adios to my slim fits, and am loving the freedom of wider leg styles. Paired with a cropped cardi and comfy sneaks – they has become my weekend uniform of choice.
Comfortable Footwear
Maybe this is the new New Yorker in me, but I’m trading my heels this spring for more practical pairs. I’ve been living in sneakers and flat boots during the fall/winter, so I’m on the hunt for warm-weather alternatives. Will I give in to the dad sandal trend… TBD. But I’ll definitely be living in comfortable kicks.
Lightweight Cardigans
This trend reminds me of the 90’s so much and I’m here for it. I especially love the ones with a matching cami underneath. They are such an understated basic in a wardrobe and I plan to style them all sorts of ways this spring. My favorite is when it is worn on its own with a wide leg pair of denim and sneaks. Add a claw clip to your hair for bonus points.
Trenchcoats
My inner-Parisian loves a good trench. It will always be the #1 staple in my wardrobe, right next to a LBD. This season, I’m swooning at the oversized styles. Give me puffed sleeves and a full skirt and I’m on board (anyone get the reference??). I’m thinking of adding a sage or cream colored one to my collection… stay tuned.
Loungewear Sets
I blame 2020 for this one, but I’m not mad about it being a trend. It should come as no surprise that there’s a way to carry our sweatsuit habit into spring and summer. The shorts and short-sleeve versions of our favorite WFH uniforms are to die for! I already own one… and now I’m just curious: how many is too many?
